Bharat Katha
Bharat is the ancient name of India — a land of layered histories, languages and lived philosophies. Katha means story.
Bharat Katha is an artist-led ethnographic journey shaped through human encounters across India.
Over more than a decade, the work has unfolded through conversations, silences and moments that often begin without intention and reveal themselves over time. These are not stories collected from a distance but experiences shaped through presence, trust and duration.
Across villages, towns and shifting cultural landscapes, the project moves quietly through observing gestures, rituals, humour, memory and the philosophies held within everyday life.
The work brings together photography, film and sound including music composed from field recordings while forming a living archive that continues to evolve.
Some encounters remain. Others pass. What stays is often incomplete.
The approach is simple: to arrive, to observe and to remain long enough for something real to reveal itself.
Created by Nitin Krishen, an Indian-born, London-based artist, Bharat Katha reflects a life lived between worlds, guided by curiosity, movement and a deep attention to the human condition.
